Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how GoodGuyApps (“we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information in connection with Kanban Pro, a Mac desktop application available on the Mac App Store.
We built Kanban Pro on a simple principle: your data belongs to you. The app is designed from the ground up as a local-first application. Everything you create stays on your Mac. We have no servers, no cloud storage, no accounts, and no way to access your data — because we never receive it.
This policy applies to the Kanban Pro macOS application. It does not apply to any future websites or services that GoodGuyApps may operate, which will be covered by their own separate policies.
Data We Do Not Collect
Kanban Pro does not collect, transmit, store remotely, or share any personal data. Specifically:
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any identifying information.
- We do not use analytics tools, crash reporters, or usage tracking of any kind. There are no third-party SDKs in the app for these purposes.
- We do not display advertisements and do not share data with advertisers.
- We do not collect information about your device, operating system version, or hardware configuration.
- The app makes no network requests in production. There is no communication between the app and any external server, including our own. This is enforced at the code level via a strict Content Security Policy that permits no external connections.
- We do not use cookies, local storage shared across websites, or any browser-based tracking mechanisms.
- We do not require you to create an account. There is no login, no registration, and no profile.
Data Stored on Your Device
All data created by Kanban Pro is stored entirely on your Mac, in locations you control. Nothing leaves your device.
The app stores the following locally:

Project Files
When you open a folder as a Kanban Pro project, the app creates and manages files inside that folder. These include:
- Ticket files (plain Markdown .md files with YAML frontmatter)
- Board configuration (.kanban/board.json)
- Activity logs (.kanban/activity/ or per-ticket .jsonl files)
- Lock files used for collaborative editing awareness (.kanban/locks/)
- Attachment files (images, videos, documents) you add to tickets (attachments/)
These files are plain text or standard media files. You can read, edit, move, back up, or delete them at any time using any tool you choose.

Bookmarks File
To comply with macOS App Sandbox requirements, the app saves a small file called bookmarks.json inside the app’s sandboxed container directory (~/Library/Containers/com.kanbanpro.app/Data/). This file contains only the file-system paths of project folders you have previously opened, encoded as macOS security-scoped bookmarks. It contains no personal data and exists solely to allow the app to re-open your project folders after the app is restarted, without requiring you to navigate to them again each time.

Display Preferences
The app stores your theme preference (light or dark mode) using standard browser localStorage within the sandboxed app container. This never leaves your device.
You can delete all app data at any time by:
- Removing the project folders you created (your files)
- Deleting the app from your Mac, which removes the sandboxed container directory and all preferences stored within it
Third-Party Services
Kanban Pro uses no third-party services of any kind.
- No analytics platforms (e.g. Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude)
- No crash reporting services (e.g. Sentry, Crashlytics, Bugsnag)
- No advertising networks
- No cloud storage providers
- No payment processors within the app (purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the Mac App Store)
- No AI or machine-learning APIs
- No social media integrations
The fonts included in the app (Comfortaa and Courier Prime) are bundled directly inside the application package and are loaded locally. No font CDN or external font service is used.
Apple and the Mac App Store
Kanban Pro is distributed through the Apple Mac App Store. Apple may collect information about your device and your use of the App Store as described in Apple’s own Privacy Policy, which is available at: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
GoodGuyApps has no access to any data Apple collects through their platform.
Children’s Privacy
Kanban Pro does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because no data is collected at all, the app is appropriate for use by anyone regardless of age.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this document. Any changes will be posted at the same URL where this policy is hosted.
Because the app collects no data, changes to this policy are expected to be infrequent and minor in nature.
